Default 2001 Honda Accord EX

I have a 2001 Honda Accord EX, 4 cylinder, with automatic CVT Transmission and 156,000 miles. My problem is that when it engages First Gear, it engages harshly..especially when slowing down and then accelerating again. Also, when stopped at a light & then accelerating forward the car bumps into first gear harshly. Transmission fluid is fine/it's not that.

Ummm, I don't think Honda was producing CVTs back in 2001 so I rather doubt that's what you have in your car; that and CVT type transmissions don't have any "gears" per-se, first or otherwise. Are you sure you don't have just a regular automatic transmission?

Honda didn't have CVT transmissions in the Accords in 2001. But, they had them in certain Civic models in 2001.

Really? Hmmm, all of the documentation I've seen suggests that Hondas (Civics or otherwise) equipped with CVT transmissions didn't hit the U.S. market until 2003. I must have missed something.

All the documentation shows there were 1st generation CVTs. The 2001 Civic HX and GX models had them, you can check U.S. Honda parts sites and also buy the 1st generation CVT fluid at local dealerships.

See the attached image from a Honda Service News regarding the 1st and 2nd generation CVT fluids.
