Default 2002 Accord shuts off when I hit the gas

I'm going to preface this by saying I know very little about cars. Anyways- my 2002 Accord runs fine, until I press the gas, then it just completely stalls out and shuts off. I took it to a mechanic who I trust - he flushed the oil system and replaced the solenoid valve - still doesn't work. He tested the gas in the car and it checked out ok. Says the code he's getting is P1259.

I'm not sure what else to do - I can't keep paying this guy to experiment on my car.

Any ideas of what might be happening?

How many miles are on the engine? When were these tuneup items last changed, distributor cap, distributor rotor, spark plugs (use only NGK PZFR5F-11).

Did your code return? Does the check engine light turn on while the car is running?

155k - not sure about those items. I've never had any problems before this. Check engine light comes on when car is turned on.

If you take a look in the owner's manual, it should have the maintenance schedule for the spark plugs. Spark plugs will wear out over time. So will a distributor cap and rotor.

You want to take care of the maintenance items first, because they are a simple fix to problems and worn out maintenance items can make troubleshooting more difficult.

I am not sure if you owned the car since new, or where you took the car for maintenance (dealership or your mechanic?). You may want to call both of them to find out if those plugs, cap, and rotor have ever been changed.

So when you go to accelerate it just instantly dies? Or is it under heavy throttle?

Your vtec malfunction won't cause the car to die like that. It just won't engage.

How long ago have you had the fuel filter replaced? And like the others said, change the distributor cap and rotor and get ngk plugs. I use ngk iridium with no problem.

Also any weird transmission problems? Jerking, rpm jumping? How is your idle?
