2002 SE Exec (UK) - adjusting alarm sensitivity ??
Hi,
I've just bought a Haynes Accord manual and am awaiting arrival of it - I'm hoping it'll help locate the Alarm Box/Unit since it keeps going off and is becoming an irritation.
Apparently on that unit is the sensitivity control - my car's alarm goes off whenever a heavy lorry drives closely past it at speed.
Can anyone please tell me exactly where I can locate it ??
I have seen on the Internet a diagram of the controls on this unit and there's a dial on it to either turn up or down it's sensitivity ??
Anyone else have a picture/diagram so that I know what I'm looking for ??
Many thanks,
Jez

Hi Redbull,
Do you mean like under the steering column ??
Or to one side (like the gearbox tunnel side or the inner wing side) ??
I can't access that site (even if I put the http://www before it).
Thanks,
Jez

I just tried the site adding just www. and it opened, not sure why it's not opening for you.
Yes, right under the steering column, the unit is usually mounted on the back of the lower dash cover. Pull the lower dash cover off and it should be there.

If you have not already done it then I would give you put some input.
If it is factory security system then it should be right under the steering wheel.
You take out the plastic cover under the dash as Redbull suggested and you will see the honda security system box.
There should be a dial to change the sensitivity, mode(auto/manual) and type of alarm(horn or siren).
Here is the picture of mine, its in 97 LX. Should not be much different on yours too.
And if you have a remote, I would recommend to put the setting in manual, because if you put in auto, and you open the car, and not put the key to ON position within 20 seconds, it will start the alarm.
Do disarm it, you have to push the disarm button while the key in ON position, its not so fun when it looks like you are trying to steal your own car.
Hope it helps.

Hi trijoon,
Many thanks for this information.
Yes it is a factory fitted alarm.
I haven't had a chance to look at this today, but with your input and that image, I now feel even more confident to start pulling at trim and poking around.
Kind regards,
Jez

My pleasure Jez, I have got so much help from this forum, just trying to give it back.
Just be careful while taking the panel off from below the steering column. There is a screw(phillips head) in the coin holder and everything else is just clipped in.
Good luck

Hi Guys,
Right I've poked my head underneath and of course everything looks flush !
I've had a look at the coin box and the 2 screws that I can see need a special screwdriver to undo them (kinda like an allen key, but not !) - they aren't flat-headed or cross-headed screws like I was expecting.
So, once I undo those (that is if I know where I'd be able to purchase such a tool), the trim just pulls off ??
Please can someone confirm ??
Many thanks,
Jez
