Default 2003 Accord EX 4 VTEC Blew up

What breaks in the valve train on the 2003 Accord EX 4 VTEC. It threw a code for the cam positioning sensor then the sound of metal. The engine has been cranking slower than normal for months and seemed to be seized for a second the last cold day. With the oil cap off air is coming out when cranked and you can hear metal. It has a 100,000 and goes through a lot of oil.

How often did you change the oil?
How often did you check the oil level and did you check the oil level?

3500 on oil chages if I want over that it would be a quart low between changes.

Air coming out is normal.

Metal on metal is bad. It sounds to me like an oil passage got clogged, starving the valve train of oil. Next thing to do would be to pull the valve cover and snap a pic of the train for us.

It is at the dealership and it is the timing chain slack adjusters. I did my 2.2 Accord head and timing belt but this is beyond me. Thanks for the help.
I now hate the chains without a recommended time to change. I think I am going to have bent valves also. At least if that is so I can get new valve seals and just maybe it will use less oil.
