Default 2003 accord LX a/c problem

i resent bought a used 03 accord LX 4 cyl sedan with about 110k miles it runs great but the AC recently stopped working it was running fine then turned of the car for about 20 mins and when i turned it on again it stopped working.

1. the blower does not turn on at all but it works i connected it straight to the battery and it works fine
2. all the fuses and relays seem to be in working order
3. the compressor clutch turn on for like 2 secs then dis engages

my friend looked at and suspects that it could be the car is low on freon and the car has a low pressure cutout so the ac wont turn on if the freon is too low

if this is the issue how can i refill the refrigerant if the compressor wont stay on it need to suck in the refrigerant how would i bypass the low pressure cut out?

You should be able to add Freon without problem but the question is how much to put in. I just replaced the compressor on my 2003 Accord today and no problem changing it. My coupe only holds about a can and half of Freon.

well i took the car today to get the AC inspected apparently the whole AC control unit went out they checked all the part and everything runs good but the ac control unit isnt communicating with the system so they told me it will cost 80 for installion in labor but over $400 in parts!!!!! so my question is would i be better off buyin the parts myself and letting them install it?

Pros & cons about that...

Shop may not warranty the parts unless you buy from them.
Shop may charge a higher labor rate to make up for the lost profits from parts.

So you may or may not come out ahead.

I expect it's too far out of warranty so Honda wouldn't do anything, but I don't know that for sure. I've heard of them doing things when it's "close" and you're doing the work at a dealer.

i think i might have found a cheaper solution with a possible plus

http://www.installer.com/item/displa...php?it=99-7864

its an aftermarket radio housing kit that has the hvac controls! maybe the AC controls on this can replace the defective one on my current dash unit plus i get to install my own aftermarket radio (with a nice ipod compatibility)

would this be a good alternative?

Sounds like a cool idea. Whether THAT unit is any good I have no clue. Post that question over in the A/V Electronics area where they might know??
