2003 honda accord cranking problems
this just started. when my car is warm, it will crank very slow, then die, as if the battery is dead. If I let it sit a few minutes, after 2-3 tries, it will start fine.
Battery is a year old, and I had it checked yesterday. Connections were removed, terminals cleaned and re-connected.
This has only happened 3 times in the last month.

Well cleaning the ends was the best place to start....might not come back.
IF it does this again, then I would suggest having the battery tested, yes I know it is only a year old but that does not mean that it can't be bad.
Then next on the list would be the starter...again have it tested, when doing so tell them why you are having it tested.

Opps, now that I read your post again I see that it was tested yesterday...sorry, sometimes reading gets the best of me
Again, if the cables were just cleaned the issue may have been fixed.....but you never know....a "hot" electrical motor "takes" more to get it going...so a weak/poor connection could be just enough to cause it not to work.

Sounding that way. A few things you can try yourself, if you have a voltmeter, test the voltage at the small wire when this happens.
You can pull the starter and have it tested, kind of describe the issue when you take it in. If they test it only once, it may test out fine-just like when you start the car in the morning-everything is fine.....correct?

Ignition switch has not been tested, but car does not have any of the symptoms of a failing ignition switch. I guess I am just "lucky" that the starter hasn't died completely. My mechanic thinks I may have a "dead spot or short" in the starter and once "I get passed it trying to start the car, it (starter) kicks in".
Yes could be the starter, please ask him to check the voltage on the small wire at the starter (when trying to start) while testing everything. Testing the voltage at the small wire will confirm that the key switch is good.
