Default 2003 Honda Accord LX Cooling Fan Turning On/off After cold start

Hello, I'm new to this forum and this is my first post.

When cold starting my 2003 Honda Accord LX 4-cycl., I notice the engine's cooling fan turns on right after engine starts. It turns on and off consistently. On for approx. 4 seconds and then off. I wasn't sure if the fan is suppose to turn on right after the car's engine is cold started.

1. I get in my car in the morning.
2. Start the car.
3. My ac is turned off.
4. Radiator fan turns on and then off.
5. Is this normal?

Thanks,
Sheryl

Thanks for your help,
Sheryl

Welcome!
I'm gonna move this to General Tech since it's not likely to result in a long detailed procedure write-up.

Ventilation system? Try setting air to the floor, NOT defrost. And turn OFF the air conditioning. Then try it again next cold start.

The fan is SUPPOSED to run along with the AC compressor. On your car, the AC turns itself ON surrepetitiously, whenever you select defrost or mix-defrost. It's sneaky, it doesn't light up the AC lamp on the control panel. And you can't turn off the AC while defrost is selected.

Your other (duplicate) thread says 4-sec on & 10-sec off. The fans running with the AC cycling is normal. The on-off cycling just seems too fast, so maybe your AC system is over-charged. Or maybe another problem with the AC.

My point was, if you have the ventilation set to defrost, or to mix-defrost, then your air conditioner ACTUALLY IS ON without your knowledge. That's not a problem, it's a "feature".

Try it again with the air directed at your feet.

If you have auto-climate-control, the story might be different. My 2003 didn't have ACC, so I'm not real sure how that's programmed to operate.

In any case, if the AC compressor engages along with the fan, then the radiator fan is doing it's job correctly. Then we have to figure out why your AC has turned itself on.
