2004 Accord rear brake caliper problem
 
I have a 2004 Honda Accord and I'm trying to do my rear brakes. I'm going to replace the rotor, pads and the caliper, but I've gotten stuck:

I removed the bottom bolt from the calper:

but I can't get the caliper to "swing up." Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

Are you getting "hung up" by the e-brake cable? Couldn't really see in the video.

Personally, I remove both....in fact just did yesterday doing the rear pads on my 95.

My problem is that the top bolt refuses to come off. I've practically stripped it trying to get it off.

The only reason I could get the bottom bolt off is that it literally broke off.

Yeah, the emergency brake is in the way in my video. I'm now trying to remove it.

I removed the retaining clip (A) and the lever (C), but couldn't get the cable out. Is there anything else that holds the cable in? It doesn't look like it to me.

I think it's just rust holding the cable in, but I just wanted to make sure.

Did you use a wrench to hold the slide pin before trying to loosen the bolt? If not, it will just spin around.

On a side note, using the correct size metric socket is critical, and a 6-point socket will have less chance of rounding off the bolt head then a 12-point socket.

In your video, the caliper slide pin is pulled out a bit, which gives less room for you to use a socket/wrench on the outer caliper bolt. With your fingers, push the bolt and slide pin back in to give you more room.

Then use a wrench to hold the hex part of the slide pin.

Now, loosen/remove the outer caliper bolt with a socket/wrench. 6-point socket is better.

I took a still picture of your video and inserted notes (attached).

If the bolts are breaking off then they were previously installed too tight or have seized due to corrosion or both. The guide pins might also be seized in the bracket.

I am very pleased to announce that I finally got the old caliper off! It was unbelievably difficult to get some of the bolts off, but I went over to Autozone, borrowed a breaker bar and finally got it done.

It was a great relief to finally get that thing off.

Now there are just two screws on the rotor that are left to remove.

I've sprayed some PB penetrating fluid into them, but I can't get them off. I'm very terrified about stripping or damaging them. What is the best way to get these screws off?
