My 2004 honda accord is slipping out of gear while in D. I was out of town and afraid I was going to be stranded. I put the car in D3 and it runs perfectly. I drove the 120 miles home in D3 without an issue. What do you think this could be?

 

Suggest getting any OBD2 codes stored in ECU. This should provide a clue. Even if no Check Enging light, check for codes.

I went to Autozone and got the codes. The codes that came up were P0154 and P2254. I think those are oxygen sensor codes?

 

It doesn't come up in any Honda references I have. I googled and found P0154 was heater circuit (Bank 2, Sensor 1) for Air/Fuel Sensor (sophisticated $$ O2 sensor).

P2254 is Bank 2 sensor 1 negative current circuit open.

Simultaneous electrical faults on both circuits of A/F sensor is suspicious. I suspect disconnected sensor or damaged wiring.

Any recent work on the car?

Clear the code and see if it comes back; if it does, it may be the air/fuel ratio sensor needs replacement. Your car has two primary A/F ratio sensors and two secondary oxygen sensors.

Looking from the front of the car, Bank 2, Sensor 1 is the A/F ratio sensor is in FRONT (radiator side).

 

The bank-2 error codes weren't in my list either, which came from the 2003-2006 Helm shop manual. I had the 4-cyl manual & I never bought the V-6 supplement.

 

Those are both codes in the V6 section for the front a/f sensor (bank 2, sensor 1). Redbull-1 put up the pic from the manual.

 

Back to the trans.....Have you changed the fluid in it? I would suggest at least one drain and fill with Honda ATF.

 

Keep the suggestions coming in!!! I am going to replace the sensors and change the transmission fluid first. My brother works at an Acura dealership so he is going to help me out.
