That's awesome. I am hoping the last one of my 4 sons will serve in some branch of the Armed Forces. The oldest 3 decided not to go that route.

I received the replacement cooling fan motor yesterday and just installed it this evening. It took about 30 minutes but the car finally hit the temp setpoint and both fans came on at the same time. I should know within the next few days if that has cured the over-heating issues. I will post final results by the end of the weekend.

Ok the car is not over-heating anymore since replacing the radiator cooling fan motor and both fans come on at the same time. So it looks like the radiator cooling fan motor was going bad and working intermittently.

Thanks everyone for all the tips and help !

Just a suggestion from a guy who has been turning wrenches for nearly 20 years. A car who has "never" had the coolant or transmission fluid changed is not well kept. It's merely survived in spite of neglect. It's far beyond to late to do anything with the transmission fluid, you'll just ride that till it dies. It would actually be a bad idea at that point to change the fluid, as it has likely turned into a jelly like substance inside the trans and that is now what is holding it together. The radiator fluid I would, if I were you, flush several more times. Use pure water for a few gallons and try to flush out all the crap that is likely built up on the inside. After that, do it with coolant again. I can't tell you how many times over the years I've had to replace freeze plugs and scoop crud out literally with a spoon to cars that never had the coolant changed. It's kind of like playing Russian Roulette, at some point you will loose and the cost is far higher than the savings.
