All 7th gen brakes are sensitive. It's not just the 05 models. You just have to get used to pushing lightly on the brake pedal. Most people simply adjust to it, which is not hard to do. I drive my truck on weekdays, and it has some of the softest brakes ever. I still don't have a problem adjusting to how the car brakes work, when I drive it on the weekends. I don't think there is any fix/adjustment for this issue, except by the person applying the brakes. It's so simple, to just push the pedal lightly.

haha actually i have a big extended family. "my" 6th gen is actually my mother's. "my" newer 2006 is my girlfriend's mother. I haven't had a chance to work on it much aside from oil changes.... the brakes are darn sensitive on that thing

Its not that simple...initially pushing on the pedal lightly does nothing...so you push a little more...then they instantly lock up.

An "adustment" to the brakes would be reasonable if they behaved the same way all the time. Not the case here. Some days they are perfectly normal, then the next day - super sensitive. Not sure if the outside air temp is a variable or not, but they simply (at least on this 05) do not behave the same way all the time.

When I spoke to the service dept mgr at Honda, he said he is frustrated with the issue himself...and the intermittent sensitivity makes it hard to troubleshoot. just weird.

2009 Honda Civic GX (mines-$2 per GGE of natgas to fill up!)
2006 Honda Accord (in-law's)
1999 Honda Accord (mum's)
1997 Honda Accord (auntie's)

Congrats on the marriage, the 06 goes from your girlfriends mothers to your in-laws. I'm done with you.

OP- sorry for all of this......please forgive me.

spoke to a local dealership Friday. Said he is well aware of the complaint, and gave me his explanation for the problem.

Said the braking system in the 4 cyl cars is identical to the much heavier 6 cyl accord. The weight differential is enough to explain the sensitive brakes in the 4 cyl.

Makes sense, but I'm not holding my breath that anything will come from it. I would think an adjustment or replacement of the booster would help, but its a longshoth that a recall will result from my inquiry with Honda.

Man, I would sure love a solution to this problem because my brother's '05 is the same thing. It's fricking ridiculous. It's not normal and shouldn't be something you have to get used to. Like mentioned above, press lightly and nothing, a little more and bam, like you dropped an anchor.

Yeah, I noticed that on a 2003 we used to have. I hated it, but my daughter mainly drove that car & she liked it. Go figure...

I suggest making a call to honda and adding to the paper trail of cusomer complaints. While I got no specifc help from the Honda rep that called me back, at least it adds to their data collection.

I even got a customer feedback survey in the mail from Honda subsequent to the phonecall from their rep. Needless to say, they did not receive favorable comments from this customer on how they "handled" the issue.

the frustrating part of this is the intermittent sensitivity. Sometimes the brakes act just fine, other times its as you say..."fricking ridiculous".

My brother wants to sell his car and even though I love it I probably won't buy it just because the stupid brakes. I can't stand it.

Default Sensitive breaks 05 accord

my son has an 05 Accord with this same problem. We bought the car in 2010 with 40K on it. We immediately noticed the problem with the breaks. Just as mentioned in this thread, when you apply the breaks, it's like throwing out an anchor. If you are not used to driving this car and you get in it without being warned about the brakes, you are in for a shock and potential accident.. We have had several mechanics check out the problem including a Honda specialist and all acknowledge the problem but are unable to correct it.. Additionally, with our car the problem is 100% of the time and not intermittent. I feel this is a major and dangerous problem that requires a RECALL from Honda. Now that I know the problem isn't just isolated to my vehicle I think it highly unlikely that Honda is not aware of this issue. Has anyone been able to correct this DANGEROUS PROBLEM? HELP!!
