2005 Honda Accord at 75k - Maintenance Light is Blinking
Hi everyone,
I have a Honda Accord that just reached 75,000 miles. The maintenance light blinks when I start the car. I bought the car used at 48,000 miles from a dealer only two years ago, so I think everything was looked at then.
On Honda's website, it recommends the following for 75,000 miles:
Replace engine oil filter
Check front and rear brakes
Check parking brake adjustment
Inspect the tie rod ends, steering gearbox, and boots
Inspect the suspension components
Inspect the driveshaft boots
Inspect the brake hoses and lines (including ABS)
Inspect all fluid levels and condition of fluids
Inspect the exhaust system
Inspect the fuel lines and connections
I replace the oil regularly, so that's not an issue. Other than that, should I take my Accord to the dealer for this recommended maintenance? If so, how much does this cost on average? Or should I just reset the maintenance required light and keep on driving?
Thanks for your help!

I would check the other fluids (trans, coolant, brake fluid). The other stuff on that list is something that you could do as well.
I have not idea what a dealership would charge for those items. You will just have to call them and ask.

You should follow the maintenance schedule outlined in the owner's manual. I attached a picture for 4 cylinder maintenance schedule under normal driving conditions.
At 27,000 miles (75,000 - 48,000), you would be due to replace the cabin filter, and about due to change the engine air filter. If you have an automatic, I recommend you change the fluid at least every 30,000 miles and not follow the owner's manual schedule on this (use genuine Honda ATF and not generic). Also check the condition of the drive belt (i.e., look at the auto-tensioner gauge position if it is within range, inspect for obvious damage; a few cracks (rib side of belt) is not a big concern, only if a lot of cracking or chunks gone then it is a concern).
You can do the filter changes yourself to save money and time, just make sure the engine air filter lid is properly reinstalled.
This link shows how to replace the cabin filter with pictures (the arrows on the filter element should match the arrows on the plastic frame; pointed down). This is only a couple minute job with no tools needed other than your hands.

This link show drive belt replacement; but, it shows the image of the pointer on the auto-tensioner gauge. I also attached a picture of the proper range in my post.

There are places that does free brake inspections if you have don't the inclination to inspect it yourself. Additionally, you can always bring the car in for a tire rotation and casually ask them to inspect the pad wear while they are at it.

Thank you both for your help. With your comments and a little more research, I've realized that 75,000 miles is not any huge milestone or anything. I'll do the regular maintenance things like you recommended and keep on truckin'.
