Default 2006 Accord 4 cyl hard to start

I bought this car 2 years ago and it now has 172,000km. The motor cranks over fine but it doesn't start right away. when cranking it sometimes makes a funny sound like air being squeezed out. If you stop cranking then start again and it starts. I replaced the plugs not too long ago but it didn't make a difference. Any ideas?

Does the car do this all of the time? Or when you first try to start the engine? Or just after a short trip?

Try turning he key to the ON position for 2 seconds, and then try staring the car and see if it starts fine. What you describe is common in the next generation Accords, but this is the first I have heard of this with your generation. I sounds like a delay in fuel pressure to the fuel rail and injectors.

Yes it seems to do it all the time. I have been waiting a few seconds and it seems to be a little better. Any remedy?

Turn the key to the II position, but do not try to start the car. When the check engine light turns off after the bulb check, turn off the key. Repeat for a total of 3 times. Then turn the key all the way to start the engine. Let us know if it starts up immediately.

The last 5 times I turned the key and waited for the beeping to stop, started okay 2 of 5 times. I just tried, "Turn the key to the II position, but do not try to start the car. When the check engine light turns off after the bulb check, turn off the key. Repeat for a total of 3 times. Then turn the key all the way to start the engine."
It started immediately.

Likely a stuck or faulty check valve in the fuel pump. I don't know if there is a replacement part or a fix, so you would probably have to replace the fuel pump.

Is that in the tank?

I think that is part of the fuel pump assembly. Check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbzEeWy1b3o

He talks about the check valve. Maybe you could pull the pump and try spraying come kind of cleaner or compressed air in there if something is caught in there?
