almost every other day or so I get an error message on my GPS screen that reads: DVD Disc reading error Please consult your dealer.

I need to upgrade my maps anyway and was wondering if this is an issue of the disc being scratched up or a different potential issue...
any advice or suggestions here would be much appreciated. Thanks!

 

Is this in a 2000 or a 2011, title says one thing and signature says another?

If the system is "disc" driven and you are willing to upgrade then I would go ahead and do that and see what you have from there.

 

When I had similar problem w/ my 03 MDX, I had to have DVD drive rebuilt by Alpine ($180, but now over $350, ouch). You might check ebay or local salvage yards for a used unit. I repaired mine based on similar problems; no screen and error message. It has worked flawlessly since.
