Default 2012 accord whining

2012 accord 4 cyl, automatic, 30 k miles.
Whining noise, annoying.
Had a 2007 accord 4 cyl automatic, did not whine like this 2012

does it at idle, in neutral or when driving. worst at low speeds, especially 0-10 mph.

Dealer says its normal.

Is this normal?

Does it change when you turn the steering wheel? If so it may have air in the power steering system, the orings for the inlet tube at the pump can go bad and allow air to get sucked into the system.

It's not the O ring, changed that. It's the trans, they all seem to do it, drove several at the dealer, they all do it, some more than others.
Just curios as to why they do it.
My 8th generation did it, but not as much.

Does your 2012 accord have the CVT transmission?

No , not a CVT trans, they started that in 2013 in the Accords.
Car shifts fine, the whine is most pronounced in 1st gear, and 2nd somewhat.
fluid is up, car only has 32 k on it. Other than that , love the car. 2nd accord, last one was a 2007, had a whine to it, but not as much as this one.
Like a said in original post, I drove several at the dealer, they all had whines to them , to various degrees.
Just wonder why they do this.

At what rpm is the engine whine most noticeable?

Honda had a service bulletin regarding engine whine on the 2008-09 four cylinders. Although the service bulletin was not revised to includ the later Accord four cylinders, it is possible it can be the issue.

If it makes a louder than normal engine whine between 2,000 – 3,500 rpm, then it may be due to the surface finish on the balancer shaft gears causing a whine when the engine is running.

Remove the accessory drive belt to eliminate any sound from the power steering pump. Monitor the engine coolant temperature gauge while testing because the water pump and alternator are also not operating with the drive belt off. If the noise was still there, then corrective action was to replace oil pump.

If the noise is not there without the accessory drive belt, then the cause may be due to something else.

NOTE: A certain level of whine from the power
steering pump is considered normal. It can be
heard inside the vehicle with the engine running
between 1,200 – 2,000 rpm.
