Default 2012 Honda Accord key code

Hey! I’m thoroughly confused! I called 20-30 people and got 20-30 different answers. What I really want to know is what is the validity of finding the key code of my car to cut a new key and does that really save me mone? Also what numbers do I look at when I’m looking at the numbers on both lines? And one more question are there different plates for different things and where is the correct number found for 2012 Honda Accord Se? Please help I’m so disillusioned?

I thought the code you need to get a key is on a little tab on the keyring when they give you the keys (buying a new-car). I'm not aware of that code being anywhere on the car itself.

You might be able to use the VIN, but I'm not sure of that.

I think what it saves you is in the event you lose all the keys, and you have none to copy. If that happens, you might have to re-key the entire car so that's the cost of a few lock-cylinders and the labor to R&R them.

Like JimBlake stated, the key code is on a plastic tab.

The dealer possibly can look up based on the VIN.

If you still have a key, they can cut a new key based on the existing key. I had that done in the parts department before by just bringing a key.

That link is for a Nissan, and its full of grammar errors. The exact procedure might not even work across all Nissan models??

Much of the general information in there is OK, but a procedure like that will be pretty specific and not likely to be the same for a different manufacturer.
