Unhappy 2013 accord coupe ex-l odor - please help

Just bought this car a month ago and it has an odor that you can actually taste and smell. Has anyone else had this problem. I've had it into the dealership twice and they have told me that the smell will go away. I should keep the windows open. I have been getting a headache and sore throat when i drive.

You just have to keep the car well ventilated. It should dissipate more in another month.

Do you know where the smell is coming from? I've had 4 hondas and this is a first...it actually makes me physically sick!

Sounds worse than the "normal" new-car smell. But smells are even harder to diagnose over the web than noises.

Like it says in that wikipedia link, the new-car smell comes from all the polymer materials that make up the interior trim panels & upholstery.

First, make sure you're keeping the ventilation system on "fresh" not recirc.

Someone else reported on the worse than "normal new car smell" for the 2013 Accord on another forum before. There was nothing to indicate it was anything else other than outgassing from the plastics, adhesives, etc.

If you've been to the dealer, do all the other 2013 cars smell the same?

My concern is I get headaches and sore throats when driving the car. The dealer gave me a loaner with 3000 miles on it and it did not smell and I felt fine.

I'm not a tech but I'll tell you this: anything that is making you that sick is NOT okay, and you should NOT "wait til it goes away." Tell the dealer he can keep the car until that odor is identified and removed. If he gripes, insist he drive it home.

I just got the LX-S coupe and I agree... I can taste it. I have gotten 5 new Hondas for myself and wife in the past 10 years... this is the first to have this issue. I need the headroom in the LX (sunroof issue) so no leather this time. Will be my sons first car in a few years. Anyways... I am so bummed about the smell. I have tried airing it out... fabreeze... dryer sheets... always drive with the windows down... still so strange and off-putting. Not a fun way to enjoy a new car.

Have you had any luck since it's been a few months???
