replacing my 5=spd, how to tell difference between transaxles, only an 81 hatchback will work, according to interchangers, have an 83 & 81 transaxle, jobber cant remember which is which. they look same, same # splines; how do i tell which is which? thanks. postscript: transaxle numbers are scraped off or illegible.

 

That is going to be difficult. Look at the bolt pattern where the transmission bolts to the block. Maybe there is some difference?

 

thx for reply, pahonda...bolt pattern appeared sAME THO WE DIDNT MEASURE IT, just assumed same 1.8 was used several yrs, same bolt patterrn, right?

 

I am not familiar with old hondas. I was just trying to give you a suggestion on how to tell them apart.
