Default 86 accord help

Hi so I'm new here and I'm helping my son work on his 86 accord, it's old so I don't know the engine size all I can say it's a manual, F.I. 4cyl 2 door.

We found out the alternator was bad so we replaced the battery, and pulled the alternator. The replacement alternator we got all looks correct (mounting ears, size etc.) But the only problem is the round plug is too large for the connector in the alternator. The design of the plug looks correct but the female (harness side) is too big for the alternator side.

did autozone just give me the wrong one?

You may want to call or return to autozone to see if they have other alternators for your accord. This could be as simple as a mislabeled box.
