87 Accord - runs fine but dies at idle
1987 honda accord, carbouraeted. The car starts without any effort, idles in park without any effort (it currently idles nicely at around 1200rpm), and drives at speed (10mph+) without any problems. however when I come to a light or stop sign and decelerate, the RPM's will drop under 1000 and go down to zero, engine cutting off at zero if not before it reaches zero. I need to "catch" the RPMs by lightly pressing the gas before it gets to that point to keep it from stopping and then feather the pedal for a few seconds to keep it running. once the car movement stops I can usually release the gas and the car will then idle. on occasion it will still go to zero and stop and I have to re-start the engine, but "usually" it is ok.

Well idle at 1200rpm's is not normal, 650-700 would be normal (you said something about park so I assume it is an auto trans). Next assumption, this only happens after the engine reaches normal operating temp. You'll need to get a manual, search the DIY section if you don't have one already, and do some tests. Is there any info on the history of this car that might lead to what you are facing.
