Default 88 Accord fuel tank

Hello, I have a 1988 Honda Accord that would be a great car IF we could get it to run. Right now I ham having a problem with the car burning up gas pumps. It has gone through several and so I know that they are good pumps when we got them. Before this started occurring we pulled the tank out of the car to clean it out. I think that the tubes that connect to the tank may have been plugged into the wrong places which is what keeps killing the pumps. If any one has a diagram of where the tubes belong please send it this way.

Please read the DIY section forum rules and do not post help question in that section.

I moved your thread to the General Tech Help section.

The common diy thread on top of the gen tech help forum has a link to online manuals. From there, the hondatech link has an 86 shop manual that you can download that should be identical to your 88.

Call me crazy but humor an old guy. Could the relay be stuck closed causing the pump to have power to it at all times?

You know where the panel is in the trunk, open it and see if there is power to the pump with the key off.....simple test and costs nothing, ok ~10 minutes of your time.

Which "tubes into the tank" are you talking about?

I have already replaced the relay so I know that is not the problem. the tubes I'm referring to are small red tubes that attach on the top of the tank to a tube above the rear driver side tire. I am curious as to how hard it would be to take an after market fuel pump and install on the outside of the pump.

Not very hard....these are low psi (less than ~9) pumps. The float needle in the carb shuts/stops the fuel to the carb. There is no "return" like the FI models
