89 accord hatchback lxi

My engine makes a weird noise, Itlooks as though the previous owner did something tothe engine tomake it sound like it has an exuast. It has a stock muffler. So what can i do to make the car sound normal.

does it have an exhaust leak ??? have you opened the hood and see where the noise is coming from ??
