Default 89 LXi Brake Pad ?

What is up with this? Working on the 89 LXi (5 speed if it matters) today, two tie rods and thought what the heck and would throw a set of pads on it while there…..I’ve only had this one for 8 months and this would be the first pad replacement but not the first time I’ve replace pads on a 3rd gen...been there done that….. The left/drivers, normal….. lower caliper bolt, two small bolts on the brake hose bracket, tilt caliper up, pop pads out, compress caliper piston in, new pads in, tilt caliper down, re-install lower bolt, two brake hose bracket bolts…done……
Go to the right / pass side, same routine until I lowered the caliper and the lower bolt would not line up...played with the pads thinking they were not “seated”. Then double checked the hardware, slide pins, ect….. Fought with this for 30 mins….finally said….ok pull the caliper, not the bracket and all just removed the upper slide bolt. Got both upper and lower started, done. Test dive and everything is fine, I worried that “something” is up on the pass/right side. I’ve always been able to remove the lower bolt, remove the brake hose bracket bolts (depends on the gen) remove old pads, install new, tilt down and done…..any ideas????

Were you able to compress the caliper piston?

If the upper slide pin (the one you didn't remove) was sloppy/loose inside it's socket, you might not have noticed. You would have needed to muscle it a bit within that sloppy socket in order to get it to line up.

Might be, I did unbolt the upper in the end, that was the only way I could get the two to line up and the caliper back on...I'll pull it back apart this coming weekend, the boy is gone to OCS so I've got ~8 weeks to figure it out. I think I have a right/pass side caliper for the LXi's in this gen.......you'd be amazed at the "product samples" I get my hands on ...I found the left/drivers side loaded caliper yesterday because I was at the point of replacing the darn thing...just frustrated, this is a 45 min job, most of that is getting the car in the air and the tires off.
