91 Accord EX stumbles from stop
You will still have to remove the plugs for access. You may be able to drill partially into the plug and use the slide hammer to remove, then recycle the plugs. If you drill through, you can try using epoxy to seal the plug and reuse.
PAhonda, Now I know why they call you a Super Moderator! Your advice was spot on! I removed the manifold plugs and 2 of the orifices nearest the EGR valve were completely clogged. The third was partially clogged and the fourth (farthest away from the EGR valve) was clear. I just took it out on for a road test and the symptoms are gone. Thank you so much for your advice. I would have never figured this out on my own!!!
There was nothing fun about this repair. It was a pain to get the plugs out and took a lot of time. I watched a video on YouTube which was helpful, however, I was able to improve on his process. I decided to thread lock my screws before pulling the plugs, and then leave them in for future use. In the video, he replaced the screws with small bolts after tapping each plug.
Other lessons learned: I found out the hard way that these plugs become air borne when being removed by force and can disappear in your engine compartment. I ended up wrapping a towel around the rest of the plugs so that they would not get lost as they were being removed with the slide hammer. I also learned that one really doesn't need to remove all six plugs, but only the four that are in line and farthest away from the engine itself. These four plugs cover the orifices that clog and may need cleaning. The other two just feed air to the four orifice plugs and are large enough that I would not think they would ever become restricted. I hope this is helpful to others that might need to attempt this repair on their 90-93 Accords.
