91 accord lx timing belt tensioner question
can anyone point to a manual online describing releasing the pulley tensioners?
the manual link for this year in the sticky does not work.
From what I understand, you put a bolt in the slot of the tbelt tensioner, torque it to 33fp, and that releases them?
also, how are these supposed to come off? in the car im dealing with, it appears there was a nut, or bolt, or something holding them on, but its completely mangled and stripped, and impossible to turn. seems like it woulda been a 14 mil.
Cant get the idle rollers off to replace the wp and put it all backtogether! help! ha.

well 1st.of all you need to get the nuts off that are stripped, you can go to any auto part store they have sockets that remove stripped nuts or bolts.
this needs to be done before you go any further with the timing belt, its not going to be easy so take your time and good luck

There is not enough room to get a ratchet & rounded-nut socket on the tensioner lock nut.
Best bet is to set vise grips as tightly as possible on the nut, and use a hammer from wheel well to rap the vise grip handle and break the nut loose. Replace nut and only torque to spec.
good luck

do the nuts loosen normally? I was starting to wonder if they thread on in reverse. also, is there one nut on the end of the stud, roller, another nut, roller? or two nuts then two rollers? make sense? this thing dones NOT want to come off...
Yes, normal CCW rotation to loosen. It is a hex drive cap nut. People tend to overtighten due to critical nature of the nut to lock the tensioner position.
There is a drive head near the base of the stud that engages the enging block or oil pump housing. It must be locked pretty tight to keep from unthreading during removal of the cap nut.
I think yours will come off w/ vise grip and a hammer. Be sure to tighten vise grips w/ correct side facing hammer blow for loosening.
good luck
