91 Accord SMOKED AND DIED HELP!
Hey Everyone,
First, I'm a chick and I'll admit I don't know JACK about cars!
I bought my friends Honda Accord Stick Shift 2 door 1991 and in a month it has smoked TWICE.
First time the dude told me it was just the pipes.
Next thing I'm on the highway 101 my car DIES and I almost got hit by a bus!
The car smoked within a minute, The temp gauge thingy went PAST the "H" and I was smoking white smoke so bad I dunno how the car didn't explode like a bomb. ALso the Check ENGINE light and OIL light came on RIGHT before it died.....
Anyways.....
The mechanic said he'd fix it but said he needs these parts:
2 Timing Belts
3 Seals
1 water pump
2 timing belt tentioner
1/4 power steering fluid
two 1/4 of engine oil
1 break pad kit front side
1 heater hose 5/8 its the size.
My questions:
1) He said he'd buy the parts and put it all in and fix the car for $460.
2) I'm BROKE I thought maybe I could buy ALL those parts and save some $$$$$.
ANY IDEA WHERE I COULD GET THESE ONLINE AND ALSO EXACLY WHAT I NEED FOR EACH OF THESE?
I have NO idea what I need from that list. I'm a car moron.
If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.
I know electronics/music stuff but when it comes to cars I'm such a chick it's ridiculous.
Thanks for your help! PM me anytime!

couple of things
First that is a VERY GOOD price for the amount work being done.
Second overheating your Honda is VERY BAD for the motor. It is likely that the head (top part of the motor) is warped. A leak down test should be performed before any of the other work is done. If the head is warped then it will cost you at least double the price you were quoted to repair. You will need to decide if the car is worth fixing to you.

As above, if overheated, then a big job and lots more money to spend than a mere $450
From experience, if the cambelt has snapped, you might as well get another engine, not worth the repair.
sorry to be the bearer of a bad news

* blue tint means you're burning oil, not critical.
* black smoke means you're burning too much gas (called running rich), not critical.
* white smoke means you're burning radiator fluid, becomes critical.
first two underlines suggest to me the headgasket lost its seal and dropped your radiator coolant into the cylinders ('burned' it),
you continued to drive and the car then overheated without coolant.
mechanic price quote very friendly, be sure you go out with him afterwards, but suspect more work will be needed.
A compression test (cheap, easy) will likely show low compression between two adjacent cylinders - or maybe all low since it's been overheated.
... either means head gasket is 'gone.' In this case you'll need to also have the head taken off, machined flat
to remove the overheated warping and reassembled with new head gasket. Added work, $, beyond your quote.
I'm not there, though, your mechanic is...
I'd look for different engine or different car and burn the first dude's toast the next time.
1990-93 Accords are very reliable, but gotta not let critical things get critically off.
