92 Accord DX won't start! Help!
A few weeks ago I ran up on a good deal on a !992 Honda Accord DX. I believed it to be a diamond in the rough but not so sure now. The Honda had been setting for two years. I was told all it needed was a water pump. Since he needed the money he said he would put it on I agreed to buy it if he put the water pump on. I drove it home the next night just fine. The next morning I got up and went and purchased the following Oil,Oil Filter,Antifreeze ( since he put mostly water in it). I cleaned inside and out and even waxed it. While I was cleaning it I noticed it was leaking oil not bad though. I checked it out and decided to put a valve cover gasket on. A few days later i made up my mind to tag it so i could drive it to work to see how it run since it has 265,000+ miles on it. I got half way to work my brother called and wanted to check out the little jewel. So I pulled over at Walmart. While we was looking at it he noticed there was a big puddle of oil under the car. I made it to work when i went to leave there was a even bigger puddle of oil under the car. So i put 3 quarts of oil in it and drove it home just fine. After looking on this forum i found out the camshaft seal was bad. Everything was going great until last night. It would not hit a lick. I have lights radio everything it just will not try to turn over.will not start at all. So here are the steps i have done so far.
Step #1: I was sure the starter or selinoid was bad. Took the starter off this morning took it to o'reily auto parts to have it tested. Both PASSED. The fella at O'Reilys said it was more than likely the starter relay.
Step #2: Found on the forum he could be right found the main relay at Autozone. Went and purchased it. Finally got it on ( its in a heck of a bad spot). Still would not hit a lick.
Step #3: Read on here it could be the Neutral Saftey Switch. I finally found it ( Under the gear shift console) Hooked my tester up to it startered glowing red so it is getting power to it. So its not that.
Step #4: The fella at O'Reilys said to check and see if it is getting power to selinoid. So I hooked the tester up to that and I didn't get a glowing light so it isn't getting fire.
Step #5: ???????? ( I have no Idea what to try)

I am going to attach some pics i just took when I got home from work. I hope someone can help me out cause i love this little car.

ok skully u said when u trid 2 start it it wont turn over correct? so whats u must do is start @ the basics, process of elimination, battery check?battery connections check?if its automatic is it fully engaged in park?it mite show ur fully engaged but the only way 2 kno 4sure is 2 get under it an check the control lever 2 the trans?broken, loose or disconnected wiring in the starting circuit?starter motor pinion jammed in flywheel ring gear?ignition switch faulty?starter pinion or flywheel teeth worn or broken?after u check all this and still wont start check the timming,#1piston @ TDC,distributor rotor pointing @ #1 plug, check the marks on the flywheel/driveplate 2c if there lined up and last but not least check the camshaft gear 2c if the arrow on it is pointing straight up?if not then change ur timming belt,if it is ok an you do all this that i say 2u and it all passes? well then partner i dont kno what the hell it culd be???but i tell u what ill sleep on this and c if i come up with nemore solutions 2 ur problem? Remember! theres no problems only solutions!
Thanks fellas for all ya'lls help. To poorman212 Where is the starter cut relay at?
To my1st.honda93 When I changed the camshaft seal I had to resit the timing. Could I have not set it right? Is the starter relay and the main relay the same? Im fixing to get out there and work on it some more ill check back in a few. Im gonna go get some battery terminal ends kyle102565.

well ....changed the battery terminal ends still will not turn over. I found the Starter Relay in the relay box under the dash. I pulled it out and took it to O'Reilys the one he came up with was the same one as i replaced yesterday ( The main relay ) he said that that was the stater relay. I found a diagram online and this the one I pulled. Im fixing to go to Autozone and see what they have. Is it possible to just use a universal relay that matchs the one i pulled out I dont know much about relays.

Hold on, one of the wires should have 12V at the neutral safety switch. That doesn't mean that the switch is working properly. What are the wire colors going to your neutral safety switch? I'm working off of a non-us accord manual for that generation accord. In mine, it says blk/grn and black for the two wires.
First of all, check that the smaller wire going to the starter has or is missing 12V when you try to start the car.

I also changed out the starter relay under the dash still nothing. The hot whire on the selinoid is hot ( Tested it with a tester) the black wire that is on the sellinoid does not have fire ( tested it with a tester ). I did not see 12V on the starter wire anywhere.
ok skully PAHonda has a very good point!about the cables from the battery going to the starter,my wife had a PT cruzer an in 5yrs. i had 2 change the cables out twice, now i kno u have a honda but sometimes the most obvious things we dont check is the problem!now just by lookn at where the cables hook up at mite look fine but its where u cant see is where the problem is at!now dont give up partner!persistence pays off in the end, process of elimination thats what us DIY mechanics do!remember there is no problems only solutions!!!DONT GIVE UP!!!THE ANSWER IS THEIR U JUST NEED 2 FIND IT!so walk away from it get ur head back dont stress take a deep breath and then go find the solution!ill be checkin in every now an then 2 see ur progress...p.s.to answer the question u had about the camshaft sprocket,it is most possible its lined up wrong!so take off the valve cover and bring #1 piston @ TDC rotor pointing @ #1 plug and timming marks lined up,once u have those 3 on time u can see or shuld be able to see the arrow straight up if not then u just found the solution?good luck!
