Default 93 Accord Radio install

I have been driving my 93 accord for about 2 months now without a radio. The stock radio was missing when I bought it. I was lucking enough to find an original Honda unit with the optional CD player. Problem is, I can't figure out how to secure it in the dash. I have read various documents online about how to remove the original radio, but the where the 8 MM bolts are supposed to secure, under the radio, above the ashtray, the CD player appears to block access to the area where those bolts secure.

I can reach around behind the radio, under the dash, but it is a tight fit. If that is what I need to do, let me know and I will figure out what to bolt to what, but if there is something obvious I am missing, please let me know.

Thanks

try installdr.com, they may have picture instruction for your year.

Thanks, that's where I went first, and how I figured out to remove the ashtry, but no luck otherwise.

Their document mentions that if I have to try to access the back of the radio to secure it (I can't get to it through the ashtray) then I might need 'specialty installer tools.'

Heck, I and jury-rig something first before I buy a single-tasking tool or pay someone to do it for me.

When i installed my cd player, i also used the instructions from installdr.com, but then, i also had to remove the portion of the dash between the glove box and the steering wheel. It was a pita but i had no other choice.

So if you look at the pdf from installdr, go until step 10, then look for 4 10mm bolts that hold the dash in place, you need to get these out.
Also, there is a phillips screw at the left of/behind the glovebox that you will need to open before pulling the dash out.

if i remember correctly, there are no screws on the left side (steering wheel side), only clips, but i might be wrong. there are also a few clips on both sides of the handbrake side cover.

After you get the dash out, it will be much easier to do your installation, then you can put back the dash + cd player together... but keep in mind that if you ever need to remove the cd player someday, you would have to remove the dash again...

I'll try to take a better pic of my dash tmrw and post it here

Good luck

On the 90-93 there is supposed to be a bracket behind the radio and the unit is held in by 8mm [head] bolts.
I remember because I bought an 8mm 1/4' drive swivel socket for that exact purpose, and flat rate pay for radio R&R was less than the cost of the socket [:@].

It could be that more than the radio is missing, maybe some one gutted the entire area?
If you had another car to look at [maybe a 91 wagon] you might have a better idea.

Thanks everyone. It seems to me that the bracket that is supposed to be behind the radio is missing. I think I can secure it with a big zip-tie to something behind it.
