Default 93 battery cables

Hi,

As part of a long list of things to fix and/or replace on my car, and also to deal with some electrical problems, I want to change the battery and cables before winter. The terminals constantly get corroded and the negative cable is missing the cover on the lower half.

My questions concerns the cables. The negative cable is split into two and the positive cable is split into three, including a ground. The cables they keep trying to give me at the local parts stores aren't the right ones. I found some OEM cables online, but the two together are $84.

Is there a cheaper place to get the cables? Do I really need to have a ground on the positive cable?

Thanks for any help!

I saw some on ebay that might be slightly cheaper (OEM). These prices are not too bad.

Yes, you need the ground jumper to avoid problems. Ground path problems can be nasty.

good luck

Can you get non-OEM cables anywhere that are the correct ones?

I don't recall seeing grounds on other cars I've had, is it normal to have a ground on the battery cable?

Thanks!

Grounds are different for different brands/models. It is not uncommon to have a ground directly from battery to body. This provides a return path for all elements that are grounded to the body, rather than through body to engine, to battery.

good luck

Ok, thanks for responses. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and go with the parts from The Honda Parts Store website.

Thanks again!
