Just bought this car yesterday. Guy told me the tranny was overheating and had a vibration before I bought it. Drive it for a while and the d4 light flashes even if its in another gear, and SOMETIMES the CEL will come on, but not every time. Most of the time the speedometer doesn't work. When it stops the odometer stops too. Vibration seems more prominent towards the left side of the valve cover. Wondering if that may be a valve sticking? Bought this car for $500 as a project car to fix up and build. Question is: what's the deal with the d4 flashing and you guys think I got a fair deal? Pics of car on prof.

First thing you need to do is use a paperclip and jump the service connector and get the codes from the ECU (CEL light) and TCU (D4 light).....just me "guessing" - replace nothing on a guess, get the code(s) - but it sounds like the VSS is going out. Check the "Common DIY Threads and Info" sticky at the top of the General Tech section for a "how to" on the codes.

Check for engine and transmission codes, then post them on here. Open the common diy thread on top of the gen tech help forum and open the link for checking CEL codes.
