I have a very similar problem with my 91 accord. The speedometer will go out then the d4 light comes on and sometimes the check engine light comes on but very seldom

 

Read the codes so we have something to go on.

Since the speedometer goes out I suspect the VSS, but still - read the error codes.

 

Ok I have 1994 honda accord automatic I followed the directions to read the blinking codes. I got 1-Long and 7-Short for the CEL which is 17. But I also got 4-Short blinking for the D4 light what does this one mean is it 4 of the same list as the CEL? Someone please let me know what you think.

im new here but i been reading different things here in the past but now i have a problem i follow the instruction a pulled the codes and if i got them right D4 flash 4 times and CEL flash 1 long and 7 short which should be 17 i guess any help is appreciated thanks

problem is driving D4 flashes and CEL is on and speedometer is not working but car runs and shifts fine

 

Does the cruise control work? Those two codes point to a problem with the vehicle speed sensor (VSS).

 

i haven't use the cruise control in a while so i don't know but should it be safe to drive with no tranny problems until i can get the vss and changed it this week on my TL the light flashed and the tranny went into safe mode and had to replace the tranny so i thought it was the same thing but the car drives fine

You should be fine for a few days. For my 95 I got a Dorman VSS and didn't have any issues.

What year is this honda?
