Default 95 accord speedo not working and D4 light flashing

So I'm not too sure how to describe this but I'll try my best, every now and then when the cars been running for a bit, the speedometer will stop working and the D4 gear light will start flashing and sometimes the transmission will slip and I don't have the needed port to read codes for my car. But someone said I could bypass that with a paper clip? I just don't know where to start so anything would help!

The 95 V6 accord has an obd2 connector behind the ash tray. The 4-cyl is the obd1 way where you short a connector with a paper clip. That connector is near the hinge of the glove box and will either be not connected to anything or in a plastic dummy connector (so no wires). The plastic connector you short is blue and has two wires going to it. You can also search youtube for check accord obd1 codes for extra help. Short the connector with piece of wire or a thin paperclip.

Since you have the speedometer out and the D4 light is flashing, you likely have a faulty vehicle speed sensor (VSS) on the transmission. If you can not set the cruise control while the speedometer is acting up, then it pretty much confirms a bad VSS. This is more common problem on the 90's accord.

EDIT: The common diy thread on top of the gen tech help forum also has a link on reading CEL codes that you can follow.

The car in question is a 4 cylinder and I have the connector pulled out, I'll do as you said with the paperclip and return with the codes when I get back home, as for the cruise control, it hasn't worked since I've had it and it hasn't caused issues further so I haven't bothered to mess with it so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it

The cruise control needs the VSS signal to operate, so another test to verify a bad VSS is to check if the CC works. Since your CC is not working, you can't do this test.

The check engine light blinks engine computer codes and the D4 light blinks transmission computer codes. Which light(s) gave the codes you listed?

The D4 light will likely blink a code 4 for the VSS.

Before you had the speedometer issue, was the check engine light turning on? Trying to figure out if you the code 3 and 21 were possibly happening before the VSS issue with the speedometer.
