Default 95 Accord, will not get warmer than a quarter of the way - new t-stat

The car will not warm up past a quarter of the way on the temp gauge. I just replaced the thermostat, and added new coolant. The car runs fine, but because it does not warm up, I get no heat. A/C blows perfect, and strong. When I put it on the heat setting, air comes out of the vents strong, but its not hot air. This is a on 95 4cyl 2DR Accord. Any ideas?

bad heater valve preventing water from entering the heater core.

A temp gauge position of 1/4 is on the low side. A good thermostat is usually about a needle's width below midpoint. If you did not use an OEM thermostat, I would replace w/ OEM.

However, I agree w/ Falkore (where ever did this name come from?) that you should have plenty of heat w/ temp gauge at 1/4 position. Heater core valve may be simply mis-adjusted or disconnected in my experience. It can be moved manually to see if it works. It's on firewall down low behind throttle body. It can be moved w/o removing anything.

good luck

Falkore is from the movie or novel "The Never Ending Story"

Correct me if I'm wrong... but, isn't the temp gauge controlled by the temperature sending unit on the side of the head?

Way out in left field... but did you add non-diluted coolant? I'm not sure what would happen if you ran 100% ethylene glycol through the engine, but 50/50 is what you want.

If it were pure antifreeze, it would be hotter. Glycol doesn't transfer heat as well as pure water, so it wouldn't be able to shed as much heat in the radiator.
