95 Electrical Problems near Cincinnati
Hi, first would like to thank all of you for such a wonderful site, have had great advice in the past numerous times and can not thank you and this site enough! Have electrical problems on this 95 four cylinder, cigarette lighter does not work 95% of the time, dome light does not work 95% of the time, one headlight brighter than the other and feedback from rear speakers sometimes, which can be very annoying. Planning on a trip and need 12 volt power for a GPS. What I would like to know is do any of you know a reputable place to get this all fixed? Would take it to the dealer but this may be a needle in a haystack type deal and think they don't like that because its a 95. There may be someone out there who deals in electrical problems, do you know anybody please? I don't know what else to do, take very good care of this car and would like to keep it.

Does the car have the factory radio or an aftermarket? I ask because as I see it the power for the lighter and the radio come from the same source. The relay shares the same ground (g403).....so IMHO if the factory radio is working, the issue with the cig lighter is either the socket or the wires to it.
For the dome light, do you have a moon roof?

No, when the dome light works the cigarette lighter does not. Thank you!

I don't understand electrical problems at this level, if a aftermarket radio goes out check power, ground and unit. With all these problems it's scary because where is it going to lead but from the sound of all of you it is not as open of a system as what was first thought, common grounds for a few items but closed loops if this makes any sense.
Thank you all again!

CIGARETTE LIGHTER
If the stereo works, it means ground G401 is okay and the cigarette light relay is okay. However, it does not necessarily mean the ground G403 is okay going to the cigarette lighter.
The problem can be a wiring or connection issue though.
Ground G401 for Cigarette lighter:
The ground for the cigarette relay is from ground G401, not G403.
Ground G401 is only used for the illumination (different than ashtray light) of the cigarette lighter, not to provide ground to the lighter part.
Ground 403 for Cigarette lighter:
The ground for the cigarette lighter and ashtray light is from ground G403.
Power for Cigarette Lighter:
Power for the cigarette lighter comes through the cigarette relay.
The Red/Wht wire coming from under-hood Fuse 36 (15A) is hot at all times and provides power to the cigarette lighter relay (the relay is normally open). When the ignition switch is turned to ACC or ON, this provides power via the under-dash Fuse 11 (10A) to energize the cigarette lighter relay, which closes the relay and provides power to the cigarette lighter and stereo.
CEILING LIGHT
Ground for Ceiling Light:
Looking at the circuit diagram, the ceiling light has dual functionality (1) turns on if manually switched ON, and (2) turns ON if any door opened. Because the ceiling lights has "dual functionality" there are two separate ground sources involved in the circuit.
(1) Ground source when manually switching on ceiling light:
· For cars without stock moonroof, if the ceiling light is manually switched ON, the ground for the ceiling light comes from G403.
· For cars with stock moonroof, if the ceiling light is manually switched ON, the ground source looks to be from the base of the ceiling light unit.
(2) Ground source when opening door:
· When the door is opened, the ground source is through a Blk/Wht wire from the respective door switch (which goes through the gauge assembly) and then to the ceiling light.
Power for Ceiling Light:
Power comes through a Wht/Blu wire from under-hood Fuse 37 (7.5A) hot at all times.
