Default 95 EX Constant Pinging

I just bought a 95 EX with 182,000. Once I fixed the exaust leak I now hear the enging pinging under almost any amount of acceleration on the road. It does not do it in the garage under no load. Doesn't seem to do it as bad until engine warms up
I tried some premium fuel, didn't help.

Engine idles smooth and seems to run/respond well on the road.

The car was a one owner that followed the Honda Maint schedule thru at least 90K miles. Not thrashed on at all but this problem seems weird.
My Mazda only does this on cheap gas at full throttle.

From what I have read on here so far it seems to be pointing me to the EGR system and or sparkplugs. Anything else I should look at?

Is there a video on the EGR cleaning process?

EGR fault might cause pinging, however there should be an EGR code set. Is Check Engine Light On?

I would also check the timing. Too advanced timing might cause this problem.

Also check coolant temp as slight overheating might cause this problem.

Check DIY forum for EGR cleanout procedures. Youtube has numerous videos on EGR cleaning. Search "accod EGR cleaning". Following ericthecarguy video should be applicable to your 95 Accord.

I assumed this was a 4-cyl, but issues are about same for V6. Put your vehicle details in a signature line.

good luck

Default 95 EX Constant Pinging 4Cyl

No CEL. Watched the video. Hopefully will get it done this weekend.
Doesn't appear to be running hot per the temp gauge.

thought about the timing being to advanced but it doesn't start hard when it is warmed up. picking up the repair manual from the PO later this week.
Will check the plugs for correct temp range as i read if they are to hot it can cause it.

thanks.

I had similar pinging before. It's hard to diagnose. I believed mine was caused by a vacuum/air leak from the EGR gasket. After I recleaned the EGR paths and tightened the EGR plate, it mostly went away.

I replaced the plugs with the next colder range listed under the hood and it reduced the pinging a lot! Didn't help that the old plugs were wore out. Gap had increased to .060 . Next step is the EGR cleaning this weekend.

1) neighbor had a Dodge Grand Caravan that pinged from day one. He ran it to 200,000 miles and no related problems.
2) have friend with high performance 2008 Kawasaki M/C which stated 91 Octane or above, only.
But, for 5 yrs he's run regular 100% of time; no problems.

So, the stated concerns about pinging damaging motor appear overstated to me.

Ok cleaned EGR, Checked all the injectors and put on new seals, new thermostat, new radiator as it was leaking, new plug wires NGK, checked valve clearance. Still pinging. only thing I haven't done is check timing only becuase it is hard to find someone with a timing light and none of the auto stores have loaners.

Suggest disabling EGR by removing vacuum actuation line and plugging. If this prevents pinging, somehow EG is being added when it shouldn't.

good luck

Finally found a timing light and timing was advanced way to much. Dialed it back and pinging is gone. also runs much quieter and smoother.
