Default 96 Accord 4Cyl Transmission

Have a 96 accord 4cyl auto. When placed into drive, the car will go into gear, but after a few minutes, the trans will stop working and the engine just revs up. Fluid level is ok. Getting two trans codes, P0715 and P0740. Anyone have any ideas where to start. I have an old trans that I can get the solenoids off of, but not sure that is the problem. Also, if the trans is bad, can a kit be bought to rebuild one of these. I have very good mech skills, but have never gone into one of these trannys. Thanks in advance.

It looks like the p0715 is a problem with the main shaft speed sensor and the P0740 is the lockup clutch not engaging.

I would start by testing the main shaft speed sensor. Make sure the connector is plugged in properly. The resistance across the terminals should be 400-600 ohms.

In the 94 shop manual (you can download from the online manuals link in the DIY section), the p0715 code is the same as trans code 15. Follow the diagnostics tree for that sensor.
