96 Accord Auto Ex No Reverse Zipper sound in D4
Sound bzzzzbeeezzzehhhhh with no acceleration in D4 after extiting interstate.
Drove in D3 to work just fine.
Would not reverse when i tried to leave.
No check engine light.
Had to add transmission fluid.
Changed speed sensor
Reverse worked fine for a day or so
Been sitting about a week while timing belt was being changed.. Held fluid.
Now wont shift into reverse again. And still actss up in D4.
Do I need a whole new transmission?
Also will not start untill D4 lights up and fuel pump engages. Been like that for years but ould the issues be related?
I love my wagon and dont want to see her die.

How much fluid did you have to add? Is the CEL or D4 light flashing while the car is running/driving?
I would check for codes. Your car has an obd2 connector behind the ashtray. If you don't have an obd2 scanner, I'm pretty sure you can check the obd1 way by shorting the blue service connector near the hinge of the glove box. See the common diy thread at the top of the gen tech help forum for checking CEL codes for instructions.

no blinking gear lights
It was empty so far as i could tell, I looked it up and i filled it with how ever much it was supposed to filled with. Its at the right level when checked but very dirty.
Ive been advised it may have something to with the sump pump and to use Taylor's method to clean the filter. Concidering how dirty the new fluid is and the fact that reverse started working with new clean fluid Im hopeful this may work. Though honestly in a little intimidated by the though of drilling through metal lmao
I'm not sure of the method to clean the filter, so please describe it.
Also, how many quarts of fluid did you have to add? The transmission can hold around 9 quarts. I'm asking, because if you had to add a lot of fluid, then you may have a leak that you need to locate and repair.
The 94-97 transmissions are pretty bulletproof, to you may not need to change the filter. To do it properly, you need to disassemble the transmission.
The easier method to exchange most of the fluid is to drain, then refill with the proper fluid. That will take about 3 quarts of fluid. If you can, drive around to mix the new fluid with the old. Then repeat 2 more times, so a total of 3 drain/refills.
The other thing you may want to check are the screens on the shift and lockup solenoids. The screens and the solenoids can get clogged with debris and cause shifting issues.

Here is a link to the filter lening method.
