Default 96 Accord Hesitation problem

Hi all,

So I have been having a problem with my 4 cylinder accord. It hesitates only when I am stopped. Such as at a light, in park at idle, or just anytime I come to a stand still and I can not figure out the problem.

Things I have done to try and fix it:

  • New cap rotor
  • new plugs
  • new PCV valve
  • Turned Idle up (it was low per book) Now at 750 +/- 50
I also have tested the spark plug wires and they are in good shape.

When I rev the engine in neutral above 1000 RPM's it stops.

Before I changed all of the above it was way worse all those things I have done seemed to help. The check engine Light came on once before doing those replacements and after I ran it through the computer it said " misfire in cylinder 4". I cleared the code and the light has not been on since but the hesitation still persists (3 months later).

So once again it only occurs at a stop once under load (driving) its fine. Also when I turn the Air on it gets worse but that can be expected. It also does not pulse like I have seen many accords do, just "Bucks" for lack of a better word. Also when I initially start it up when cold its fine but it idles over 1000rpm's so I figure that's why.

ANY IDEAS of whats wrong would be greatly appreciated.

I would clean the throttle body and both sides of the throttle plate. Also clean the IACV valve on back of the intake manifold. In the DIY section there are some posts on how to do this.

You may also want to clean the EGR port. See the Common DIY thread on top of this gen tech help forum. There should be links in there for the EGR and maybe the IACV cleaning.
