sputter on start up then runs smooth but tachometer won't read anything, shifter stuck in (P) unless extra key used to release shift lock and once released car is drivable up to 20 mph then i stop driving it once it hits 20 mph because the gears won't shift and it just rides in first. will test sensors with an ohm reader soon. no codes as of the last test done on it 1 week ago on saturday ,but the following week on friday it just up and decided to do what its doing now. find it interesting that when i turn on A/C the tachometer reads for few seconds then doesn't read any longer than 30 seconds. back up lights work, horn works fine. Im being told its the transmission but would it just stop working without any warning? transmission has been flushed within the past 3 years. Any thoughts?

speed sensor, ignition switch, tranny, solenoids? anything else i should check ?

I'll guess you just got this car. IMHO, you have a few different issues going on here.

Can we start with the shifter not "coming out of park". Have you checked the fuse for the brake lights.......do the brake lights work?

 

brake lights operational and yes the car will start when put into neutral by releasing the shift lock release. sputters on start up and seems as if it will shut down any second but continues to run. just cleaned out SOLENOIDS and they are fine. partner and i will search ELECTRICAL grounds and relays today.

 

So when the car is in Park...what does the starter do when you turn the ket to start?
