Hello all,
New member here, First off I want to thank everyone responsible for this forum, there is a wealth of information available, how ever I still need some help.
My wife has aHonda Accord LX with 2.2engine and a 4 speed automatic transmission.
Recently The check Engine lightwarning light came on, I took the car to the Dealer and after putting it on their diagnostic machine and found that the diagnostic trouble code was PO74O, they said I need a new transmission computer or controler, the read out I have calls it (PCM) powertrain controlmodule.
The guy told me that there were a couple of these computers and it would have to be removed to know which one was needed, he said that the cheapest one would cost me $800 and of course the labor charge.
He told me that I could find on on line or at a wrecking yard but need to know which one.
Question ... Has anyone ever dealt with this and knows any thing about it.
Like where is the PCM located and can I remove it, I imagine that the dealer or a technician would have to program this part. should I justleave every thing to the dealer...What should I do??? Help, my wife has my truck and wants to sell her car as is, letting the buyer know the problem of course.
Thanks for any helpful advice....kcurtis61[/align]
Check car-part.com. This site will match your car to the correct donor vehicle and part. I've found it to be reliable. The Tran Control Unit (TCU) is located under the pax side carpet along side the Engine Control Unit.
Not to impugn the ability of your dealer, but P0740 is code for Lock-up Clutch does not engage. You can detect if this is the case by noticing RPM when you accelerate to 60 mph and set speed control. RPM should drop 100-200 rpm when LU clutch engages. I know it too well as I have a 97 Acura 2.5TL that has this fault for some time. Fault occurs when TCU detects that slippage (^5% I think) exists between Main shaft and engine and sets P0740. This fault can be caused by wear and/or internal hydraulic faults, as well as defective lockup solenoids (hydraulic problem not electric, another code for solenoid failure). In my case, the fault is apparently some internal component, so I've been living w/ it for a while.
I would suggest getting a 2nd opinion. While it may be possible that your TCU is bad, they are very durable and this would not be the first thing to check or replace for P0740.
good luck
