Default '97 Accord SE Trunk Lock Issue

The lock on my trunk seems to be frozen in the locked position - however the trunk itself is open. This happened because I had an oversized load in the trunk and had to use twine to tie it closed for a short ride home from Home Depot. I pushed the lock mechanism with my finger to close it so I couild loop the twine thru it and tie it down to the U closure. I (stupidly) assumed all I'd have to do to open it was to put the key in the trunk lock and turn it - but it did not unlock - I also tried the trunk release inside the car as well as the valet lock - nothing. It seems like it should very easily open and I just don't know what the right combination is to do it. Can anybody help?

Try turning the key to the unlock position then use a screwdriver to push back the hook of the lock mechanism.

PAhonda - Thank you so much that did it!!!! I should know better than to do ANYTHING on a Friday night after a nonstop week at work! I knew it had to be a simple fix but I was pushing instead of pulling! Idiot me. Again thank you and have a great weekend.
