For some strange reason, I've actually let the shop have my car for just over two weeks. They said they think it's the crank flunctuating sensor. They said they are gonna put the one from my old F22 on it.

Anyway, they also tried a civic ECU for manual tranny, and the engine would rev to the normal 6200 rpm. Although they couldn't drive it like that because I have an auto tranny, it WAS reving past the 52-5300 rpm cut. Strange misshappenings lol.

Hi Guys,

I think I am having the same problem only at 4000 RPM. If you have ever seen or heard the rev limiter on a sport bike the problem I am having sounds just like that. At 4000 RMP all power is gone and doesn't come back till the RPM go below 3800 RPM.

Did you ever find a solution to your problem?

Does this occur when you're in neutral or does it happen when you're in gear and accelerating?

vtec solenoids normally last forever, and the only time you will see 1 fail iissss
* oil is leaking from 1 of the 3 gaskets/o rings, meaning loss of pressure
* orrr, there is metal in the filter inside the vtec. if you have metal in that filter then ur engine has metal shavings meaining something is not functioning properly and rubbing/destroying itself

for the 5500, do you have stick or automatic tranny? i know with most vtecs they wont kick in until 4500-5500 unless tuned and turned down to lower rpms. it sounds like a rev limiter is cutting in and stopping you from burning the engine up, so im curious if when u did the engine swap, did u get the correct ecu and have it tuned?

Ok I have a question about the oil switch that screws onto the vtec solenoid. The oil switch has a spot for it to be plugged in but i can not find the plug to plug it in. is it possible to run new wires for itand if so where does the other end of the wires connect to. . it is putting out engine code p1253 (vtec malfunction) and it is doing the same thing as stated above stays steady at about 5000 rpms and wont go higher. please help

brandon9686: Need more info: year, model, engine, trans, and engine swap if applicable.

Putting that info in your signature helps everyone.

it is 97 accord ex it is a vtec but not sure about exact numbers on the engine or transmission but everything is original no engine or transmission swap. i bought the car about 3 years ago and didnt pay attention to the oil switch that i can not find the connector for. it just started doing this about 3 weeks ago but it does it itermiten and idles a litte higher than it used to the oil is at the correct level. wanted to know if the oil switch not being plugged in is causing this. or if it is a bad vtec solenoid.
thank you for your reply.

VTEC oil pressure switch not being plugged in can cause this.

Whenever the VTEC switches in, the ECM looks at that switch to see whether the oil pressure is actually being applied to the VTEC mechanism. With F-series, the VTEC can engage in the mid 2k rpm range, so it's pretty difficult to drive without "engaging" VTEC.

They go to the ECM, but I don't remember the pin-out.
