96 - 97 F22B1s didn't have VTEC oil pressure switches, which is why I was asking about an engine swap.

Take a pic of the the switch that has no connector on it and post the pic here.

Sorry; I didn't realize those years didn't have the oil pressure switch.

Maybe not an engine swap, but maybe just a junkard VTEC spool valve from a different year??

Could be. You never know on a 16-year-old car what you'll find. There's also the possibility that a previous owner converted it to OBD1 - including the ECU - and that ECU is looking for a VTEC oil pressure switch.

OP: the middle numbers on your ECU should be P0H. That's a '96 - '97 VTEC ECU that doesn't have an input for the VTEC oil pressure switch.

Not wanting to hijack this thread but but i had the same problem on my car twice in a 2 year interval
and it was the ecu both times. try with a other ecu and see if that works.

Trying to help isn't hijacking - no worries.

I have a 96 accord coupe LX. It came with f22b2 original then the idiot owner before me did a full motor swap to a f22b1 but didn’t change harness and ecu. So vtec never activated and literally never went past 4k RPM. One simple fix. Put a small piece of round metal that will allow oil to flow thru. (Unbolt the top of the vtec solenoid, you’ll see a cylinder piece of metal. You’ll want to put a tiny round piece of metal on top just big enough to slide down the cylinder wall with the cylinder and it doesn’t take much probably something that’s 2cm thick) She should be redlining above 6000-6400k RPM but it definitely rips up to 5,700-5,8000k. Not sure If that’s the ecu fault or if it’s the f22b1 intake manifold not having as much air flow, causing it to lose breath. But that’s the cheapest fix I know of.
