Default 97 Honda Accord Issues

Hi I have a few problems with my vehicle and was wondering if anyone had an idea of how I could fix them. I recently bought a used Honda Accord DX engine size 2.2L 4 Cylinder. The previous owner says he replaced the radiator.

Here are the issues

1)My temperature gauge goes to to hot in about 2-5 mins of driving

2)My passenger side fan runs but driver side fan only runs when air is on....also the passenger fan runs when I turn the vehicle off.

3)My heat doesn't blow warm air

4)Sometimes when my car is in park the car sounds as it is accelerating on its own

The car runs fine and has only smoked once due to a torn lower radiator hose which was replaced.

My check engine light has recently come on as soon as these problems occured.

If someone has knowledge as to what could fix these I'd greatly appreciate it.

When the engine is cold, remove the radiator cap and make sure the radiator is filled with coolant.

Stop by a parts store and have them scan for codes. Post the actual codes on here. They start with the letter P and have four numbers, like P1234.

When the car is cold, start it up, and turn on the a/c. Do both fans turn on?

Let us know what you find.

Well unfortunately I'm not trying to drive at the moment because within 5 mins the temp gauge reads hot...but I can say that this morning I started the car and my fans both come on but only when airs on...however I have no idea about my radiator but I just put coolant in the other day.

Did you start having the overheating problems right after you replaced the radiator hose?

If you are not driving the car, you can check the codes like the 94/95 accord. There is a link in the common diy thread on top of the gen tech help forum for checking engine codes. All you need is a piece of wire or a thin paperclip.

Let us know what codes you get.

It sounds like your fans are working properly.

I would as PAHonda said check to make sure there is in fact coolant.

The next step I would probably take is remove the thermostat(when the engine is cold obviously). Its very simple to remove. And try running the car without a thermostat in at all.

Hey guys turns out I didn't have a thermostat in at all! I had one installed yesterday. However, new problems have arrived..

1) The radiator has a major leakage..I believe its completely empty now

2) The car isn't even starting now...I have no idea where this problem came from because I have a new battery from Napa

Thanks for the info guys!

You will have to find and repair the leak in the coolant system.

Some parts stores will have a radiator pressure tester as a loaner tool. Call before you go to find out if they have a radiator pressure tester. You attach it to the radiator and pump up the radiator to about 16 psi. See if the radiator can hold the pressure. If there is a big leak, you should be able to see coolant leaking or hear air leaking.

For the no start, what is happening when you turn the key to start the car?

Yeah I plan on replacing the radiator because I have discovered a leak.

But when I turn the key it hesitates to start. The radio comes on,the lights blink. But it just won't start.

I've been told two different things

1) An electronical issue
2)Tune up

Once again I doubt it can be the batttery because I bought a brand new battery from NAPA a few weeks ago

We should get more detail about your starting problem.

When attempting to start a car that is working, you turn the key to the start position and the starter turns the engine. When the car fires up, you release the key, because the engine is running.

Is the starter spinning the engine at a normal rate? Is the car not firing up?

When I turn the key to the starting position the engine attempts to run but no it won't run.
