Default 98 4 cyl sounds like a diesel HELP

My 98 Accord 4 cyl sounds like a diesel when cold or hot. Had valves adjusted but that didn't help.

Honda dealer workshop adjusted the valves. The service advisor said he didn't know what the noise was and thought it might be an engine crack but wouldn't really offer anymore help or info. I've put 12K miles on since the noise started and it still runs great but the noise has gotten worse.
Sounds like an internal noise, it increases as the revs go up.
The check engine light just came on and it's idling very rough. Not sure if they are related.
Oil is good, had high pressure engine flush and oil and filter change but that didn't help.

Thanks for the reply.

What is the Code that the Check engine light is throwing?

Autozone will check your code and tell you what it is for free.

I will check the code this weekend. When its cold it sounds like a piston slap and is still there when it heats up but not as loud. I can hear hear it while idling and accelerating.
