98 flicker

All the lights in my 98 flicker on and off. I've been living with it for years but it destroys batteries every six months or so. Any ideas? My dealer couldn't find the problem.
Also - when I bought the can new back in late 97 it came without an alarm system so I had one installed. What wires do I have to cut/remove/unhook to totally deactivate the alarm system altogether? (The original installer went out of business.) Could these two things be related? thanks - dayll

When you say flicker do you mean go on/off or bright/dim? There is an Electronic Load Detector (ELD) that could cause rapid voltage changes and cause bright/dim light pulses. This might also damage the alternator. Shop manuals have ELD test diagnostics.
If all the lights flicker on/off, you can generally rule out ground problems, except battery negative cable/connections.
check posiitve power cable from battery to positive battery cable connection at main fuse box, main fuse box, check main fusesand their mountings for security. Try wiggling the fuse box and see if you can simulate the problem. If you find anything, you can purchase a used fuse boxand replace entire fuse box.
Check negative battery ground lead connection at battery, negative battery cable, and negative cable ground connection. I doubt this is your problem or shop would have found it.
Check alternator connectors and Bat wire connection for security. I don't think this would cause all the lights to flicker, but could result in bright/dim and damage alternator.
good luck
