98 V6 EX Coupe idle speed
Pristine car w 142k miles.
Today - raining for past 8 hours - drove car and noticed tach was hovering at around 1300 at a stop sign.
Seems that the idle speed kick down was not happening. AC on/off - defrost on/off - made no difference.
Came home 40 minutes later, parked the car, idle speed went haywire - surging/revving from 1000 - 1800 rpm about 6 times , then check engine light came on and idle speed settled at 700.
What is this?
Anyone have this happen before?
How do I read for codes on this car?
Would cleaning the Idle Air Control Valve help this problem?

The best thing to do is get the CEL code, such as P0XXX, then the reason for the CEL might solve the idle speed problem.
Most parts stores will read the code for free in the hopes of selling you un-needed parts and accessories.
