Default 99 Accord LX vs 97 Civix LX

I am thinking of buying an Accord and would like some advise. I have a 97 Civic with 300k and am looking at buying an 99 Accord LX with 240k, 4 cyl auto for $3000. It has the maintenance records and it is being sold by the original owner. Are they as reliable as the Civic? What should I look for? Is this a descent deal.? Thanks in advance.

That's right in the middle of the unreliable-years for auto-trans (98-02) although the V-6 auto is worse.

Find a manual trans, they're bulletproof.

Hi Member..of course in here most of us would go with an accord..but if you notice alot of the members also have Civic's too. Both are great cars so it's your choice..

Welcome to the forums...

Is the tranny like the Civic where there is no filter? What about the price?

i got my 98 accord lx 5 speed, with 140k for $3000. talk him down. check kbb or your reference to know a ballpark of what to spend. the guy was trying to sell it for more, but i started calling out things i saw wrong. one obvious one was the hood was bent. lol. i'm sure you can get a better deal, one without as many problems for 3000. imo. happy buying!

I picked it up for 2700. Other than the cable for the gas door not working, it is in very good condition. I went through his invoices and he has spend $4000 just over the last 40,000 km.

Thanks. Now I have to sell my Civic before I put the Accord on the road. I had a couple of questions though. How hard is it to change the cable on the gas door? The stereo is cassette but has controls for a CD. What CD works and where would it be located?

I think the dealer accessories would be either a single CD player in the dash, or a multi-disc player in the trunk.

Check some places like crutchfield dot com for stuff.
