Unhappy 99 ex starting fail

Hey guys I have a 99 EX and I was driving down the highway and all the lights in my instrument panel flashed a few times, then a few minutes later a very little bit of smoke started coming from the steering wheel column(like someone was holding a cigarette underneath it). I pulled the car over and since then the car will start and immeadiatly shuts off around 1000rpm before it reaches idle and the green key indicator flashes for a few seconds.

Any ideas?

Something shorted out under the steering column. Try to look under there to see if anything is obvious.

I would look at the ignition switch and the wires leading to it for signs of burning.

There was also an ignition switch recall on some accords, and your accord may be in that range. You can call the dealership to see if this recall includes your car and/or if it was already replaced on your car.

You said the green key lamp flashed? I think that means the immobilizer isn't recognizing the key. Around the key cylinder is the RFID antenna for the immobilizer - maybe something burned up around there??
