99 honda accord ex shutting down
Hi i have a 99 honda accord ex with appr. 142,000 miles..I have never had any major problems with my car until a couple of months ago when the car would sound like it was racing when i started out and began to accelerate. My car is automatic..it sounded like the car was having trouble shifting into gear. well finally it would shift into gear but it would jerk really bad when doing this..once i was up to speed there was no problem..until i stopped and had to accelerate again. i took the car to a technician who indicated that the egr? valve was clogged..just got the car out of the shop a few weeks ago..a little better..not much..now the car will just shut down every once in a while with no warning..the last time this happened i was on the interstate going around 65-68 mph. no engine lights or anything came on and once i guided to the side of the road and tried to restart it, it started up again with no problems..it hasn't done it since..Please help! i really dont want to trade the car in at this point..i know she is old but i really like the car! any help on this matter would be great..thanks!

RE: 99 honda accord ex shutting down
If the dash lights went off when this happened and you had no ALT or CEL w/ dead engine but keyswitch ON, a keyswitch issue seems most likely. It could also be a main fuel relay suddenly opening and causing loss of fuel pressure.
I currently have a problem w/ intermittent no-start and have rigged a light in the cabin from the fuel pump power supply line to check whether I was losing power or fuel pump was not starting when power was applied.
good luck
